"Blister packaging" is a term thrown around a lot in the jewellery and bullion trade, but few buyers actually know what separates a good one from a flimsy one. If you're sourcing blister packaging in Pakistan for the first time, here's what the term actually means — and what to check before you order.
The basic anatomy of a blister card
A blister card has two parts. The first is the card backing — usually printed card stock carrying your branding, product name, and any design elements. The second is the blister itself: a moulded, crystal-clear plastic capsule shaped to hold the coin or bar snugly in place. The two are joined together, typically by heat sealing, so the item inside is fully enclosed and visible at the same time.
What makes a seal "tamper-evident"?
This is the part that actually matters for trust. A properly heat-sealed blister card cannot be opened and closed again without leaving visible damage — a torn edge, a lifted seal line, a crushed capsule. That visible damage is the entire point: it tells your customer, at a glance, that nothing has been removed or swapped since the card left your production line.
Signs of a weak seal
- The blister can be gently peeled back and pressed down again without tearing.
- The card stock separates from the blister edge under light pressure.
- Inconsistent sealing around the capsule, leaving gaps.
Any of these should be a red flag when evaluating a packaging supplier — a weak seal defeats the purpose of using a blister card at all.

Loose coins and bars are easy to swap, easy to damage, and hard to display attractively. A blister card solves all three problems at once: the item is fixed in place, protected from scratches and fingerprints, and presented behind clear plastic that still lets the customer see exactly what they're buying — all while making any tampering immediately obvious.
What to ask your packaging supplier
Whether you're comparing local manufacturers or importing, ask directly:
- What sealing method do you use, and can I see a sample seal?
- What card stock weight (GSM) do you print on?
- Can the blister capsule be sized to my specific coin or bar dimensions?
A manufacturer who can answer these clearly, with samples to back it up, is worth trusting with your packaging.
